Delta nearly pulled off a complete sweep of 6-0, 6-0 in every varsity match -- something the Eagles have never done in this rivalry.  But with the final match at 6-0, 5-0, the visiting Tigers finally broke through and picked up a game before the Eagles finished with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Regardless, it was a strong result for Delta over a Yorktown team that entered the match with an 8-4 season record.

Delta, which moved up a spot to No. 6 in this week's state rankings, improved its record to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

First off the court was No. 2 singles player Charlie Vannatter, who needed only a half hour to shut out Yorktown's Nolan Clark, 6-0, 6-0.

Jackson Darby matched that result at No. 1 singles over Aaron Buehler to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead.

The No. 2 doubles team of Easton Duckworth and Roman Ashcraft was the third match to finish, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Hudson Coats and Ethan Hellems.

Shortly after that, Luke Atkinson wrapped up his No. 3 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jackson Ambler.

The No. 1 doubles team of Tyce Dishman and Brandon Grubbs dropped one game to Colton Nichols and Jackson West in the final varsity match of the evening.

Delta hasn't lost to Yorktown in boys' tennis since 1992.  The 62 straight victories since then include regular season matches, Delta Invitational matches, and sectional matches.

In JV action, the Eagles gained an 11-5 victory to improve their record to 7-1 for the season.

Stanley Hutchens and Evan Lindburgh each won twice.

Next for Delta is a match against Fort Wayne Carroll, which is tied for 15th in this week's state rankings.  The Chargers are 15-1 this season and are coming off a 5-0 victory over Homestead last night.  Their lone loss has been to Hamilton Southeastern.  Delta has lost to HSE and South Bend St. Joseph.

The match is scheduled for 5:15 tonight (Wednesday) at Norwell High School courts, weather permitting.
